Protect Yourself with Indiana Car Insurance & Tips to Avoid Driver Fatigue

Have you reviewed the statistics regarding driver fatigue lately?  The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety released their findings in 2010 which stated that 1 in 6 crashes involve a drowsy driver. Have you ever thought that could be you?  These figures underline the importance of the basics when it comes to safe driving - and the need for Indiana car insurance because you never know when a sleepy driver is going to cross your path.

Here’s a quick refresher on the ways to prevent drowsy driving:

  • Make sure you have a good sleep before you start a long journey and if you feel too tired to drive, don’t – make other arrangements.
  • Drive when you would normally be awake so your sleep cycle is not confused.
  • On a long drive, take regular breaks, say every 2 hours. Get out of the car, walk around and have a drink (we’re talking non-alcoholic of course!). Talk to the other passengers in the car, if possible, so your brain gets some exercise as well.
  • Be aware of areas of your trip that may seem “boring” or not as lively; try to make that time more interesting and be vigilant.
  • Watch the weather and traffic reports before you hit the road, so you’re not surprised by any unexpected hold-ups along the way.
